Getting Down to the Real Business of Being President

Today is the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. As the inaugural celebrants are leaving, many pro-life advocates will be traveling to Washington D.C. to voice their opposition to abortion. In the past 8 years, President Bush spoke with this gathering annually and supported their cause. This year, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, President Obama will "celebrate" this occasion on his second day in office by issuing an executive order reversing the "Mexico City Policy."

The Mexico City Policy forbids any non-governmental agency operating overseas that performs or promotes abortions from receiving any US foreign aid.

So one of his first official acts in the first 100 days is to be sure that your tax dollars go to promote global abortions--I wonder if any of his Kenyan relatives will be recipients???

  1. He also issued this statement:

"On this anniversary, we must also recommit ourselves more broadly to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights and opportunities as our sons: the chance to attain a world-class education; to have fulfilling careers in any industry; to be treated fairly and paid equally for their work; and to have no limits on their dreams. That is what I want for women everywhere."

Without access to birth control, without control of their own bodies, what chance do young women have to control their own future?

  2. So you equate abortion with birth control?? How sad. One of the most empowering things a smart young woman can do is NOT put herself into a place where she puts her body in danger of permanent future health implications such as incurable STD's.

Men AND women need to hear the other side of the "if it feels good, do it" message and see that there are emotional and physical consequences of sexual freedom. As a practitioner, I see far too many women who carry a lifelong burden of regret and guilt (not to mention the physical burden of infertility, obstetrical consequences and gynecologic health issues) over the consequences of decisions made under the guise of "control over my own body". There are too many women who are "damaged goods" from drinking the kool-aid of the liberating message of the pro-choice left.
